Dalhousie Emergency Medicine Saint John & IWK POCUS Fellowship

Dalhousie Emergency Medicine Saint John & IWK POCUS Fellowship

The Dalhousie University (DU) Emergency Point of Care Ultrasound Elective and Fellowship Program at Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH) offers Emergency PoCUS training with an optional placement in Pediatric PoCUS for up to 1-month at the IWK Health Centre Pediatric Emergency Department. Fellows will join a thriving academic PoCUS program with an outstanding research record and a history of PoCUS education that spans over 15 years. This is the only PoCUS Fellowship in the Atlantic Canada, a spectacular location fringed by fresh waterways on one side and the ocean on the other. Saint John is situated in the picturesque Bay of Fundy and is located on one of the finest inland waterways in North America.

Welcome to the Dalhousie University (DU) Emergency Point of Care Ultrasound Elective and Fellowship Program at Saint John Regional Hospital (SJRH) with an optional placement in Pediatric PoCUS for up to 1-month at the IWK Health Centre Pediatric Emergency Department.  We are very proud of our program and excited that you are considering joining us.

Fellows will join a thriving academic PoCUS program with an outstanding research record and a history of PoCUS education that spans over 15 years.

  • Clinical: optimizing image acquisition and interpretation skills for both core and advanced emergency and point of care ultrasound applications
  • Education: developing lecturing and teaching skills by developing an emergency ultrasound lecture portfolio and contributing to the program’s educational mission. Acquiring expertise at bedside ultrasound teaching and assessment.
  • Administration: understanding the critical components required to run an emergency ultrasound program, set up and deliver educational events/courses and how to best utilize information technologies for image archiving, database management, and quality assurance.
  • Research: understanding the state of emergency ultrasound research by participating in ultrasound journal club activities and developing an independent research project from its inception to publication.
